Two women in this issue spend their essays asking who gets to authorize an AI agent to act. Several more spend theirs describing the exact same fight, minus the AI, over who gets to decide that they belong in the room. Read together, it's the same question asked twice.
What gets checked and what actually matters keep turning out to be two different things. This issue caught that gap in the act, again and again, across a boardroom, a diagnosis, a résumé, and a decade-old age limit: rooms that had nothing else in common.
Reading the stories that arrived during these two weeks, we kept noticing the same first move before the harder one: a burnout renamed as drift, a productivity complaint traced back to a habit, a grief industry with no regulator, a way of reading and speaking that had no word for thirty-five years. The naming came first. The building came after.
Careers that refuse a straight line. Contributors who rebuilt themselves, from homemakers, nurses, teachers, boardroom executives, and office administrators, into the people writing the next chapter of tech, healthcare, security, and AI.
Founders, engineers, and operators who started without permission, without the perfect résumé, and without waiting to be ready. Stories of building infrastructure, companies, and careers on purpose.
This issue explores career transitions, cybersecurity, identity, resilience, and the invisible realities behind building a career in technology.
