Build With Her Magazine · FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What Build With Her Magazine is, how it works, who it is for, and how to be part of it.

01

What is Build With Her Magazine?

An independent editorial magazine covering women building cloud infrastructure, AI systems, DevOps pipelines, cybersecurity programs, and platform engineering. We publish longform features, technical essays, and production war stories. We assume you already know the field.

02

How is this different from the Build With Her community?

Build With Her Magazine is the editorial arm of Build With Her. The community (bwh.ozlunara.com) is where members connect, share resources, and support each other's careers. The magazine is where those members' stories, technical expertise, and insights get documented and published for a permanent record. They serve different functions and share the same mission.

03

Who can contribute?

Any woman who has done meaningful technical work in the areas we cover. You do not need a large audience or a public profile. You need a story worth telling and the technical depth to tell it precisely. We care about the work, not the follower count.

04

What kinds of stories do you publish?

Production systems. Architectural decisions with real tradeoffs. On call culture rebuilt from scratch. Infrastructure that changed who gets to participate in the modern internet. Career pivots grounded in technical reality. Leadership stories that show the work, not the optics. If it happened in production and you were there, it belongs here.

05

How are stories selected?

The editorial team reviews every submission for specificity, technical depth, and relevance to our coverage areas. We look for real systems, real tradeoffs, real outcomes. The question we ask is simple: would this story exist if the writer hadn't been there? If yes, we pass. If only they could have written it, we read on.

06

Do contributors get credited?

Always. Contributors receive a full byline, a permanent author bio on their article, and attribution across all distribution. We do not publish anonymous work except in documented circumstances where safety requires it, and we disclose when that is the case.

07

How do interviews work?

For stories we commission, we conduct interviews and return quotes to the subject for factual accuracy review before publication. We do not send final copy for approval. We do verify quotes. We do not alter meaning, add attributions, or cut context without disclosure.

08

Can I nominate someone to be featured?

Yes. If you know a woman doing exceptional technical work who deserves to be in the record, tell us about her. Use the contact page. We read every nomination. We cannot guarantee coverage of every nomination, but every name submitted gets serious consideration.

09

How long does editorial review take?

We aim to respond to every submission within three weeks. Complex pieces requiring original reporting may take longer. We respond to every submission, including those we cannot accept.

10

What is your AI policy?

We use AI tools for research assistance and copy-editing support. We do not generate article text using AI. Every story published in Build With Her Magazine was written by the human author whose name is on it. For the complete policy, see our Ethics page.

11

Is there a fee to submit or read?

No. Submissions are free. The magazine is free to read.

12

Can companies or organizations sponsor or commission stories?

We do not accept paid content, sponsored articles, or articles commissioned by vendors. We do not publish press releases. Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team, not by commercial relationships. If this changes, we will disclose it prominently.
