You Wanted to Be Your Own Boss. So Why Is a Robot Bossing You Around?

Hey my love, we need to talk about our new business bestie aka ChatGPT. Because while I'm ALL for working smarter, making more money, and finding ways to get your time back as a business owner, I have a tiny little concern. Are we using AI to make running our businesses easier, or are we asking it to do all our thinking for us?

Because there's a difference!

Listen, I love a good shortcut. I love a tool that saves me time, helps me get organised, and makes those never-ending business to-do lists feel a little less dramatic. If something can help me get a task done in twenty minutes instead of two hours? Sign me up like immediately! But somewhere along the way, some entrepreneurs have started treating ChatGPT like their personal CEO, creative director, marketing strategist, and business therapist all rolled into one.

What should I post today? What should I sell? What should I charge? What should my niche be? What should my next offer look like? What should I say to my audience?

Girl. At this point, does ChatGPT need equity in your business, too?

YOU are the entrepreneur. YOU had the idea. YOU decided to build something of your own. YOU have the experiences, the expertise, the opinions, and the vision that make your business different. So why are you handing over the very things that make you a business owner in the first place?

Remember, you're the magic, bestie. AI is the assistant! ASS-ISTANT! ;) NOT AS-INSTANT!! Lol. Bad joke, I know. But THIS is what I've been missing in our copy lately, ya!

Here's what I want you to remember: ChatGPT is a TOOL. A really useful tool, yes. But a tool nonetheless. Its job is to support your thinking, help you execute your ideas, and make certain parts of running your business easier. Its job is NOT to decide what your business stands for, what you believe in, or where you're going next.

Just think about it. You wouldn't hire a virtual assistant and expect her to magically know your entire business vision without giving her any direction, context, or information. You'd tell her what needs to happen, explain the goal, and give her the resources she needs to do the job well. The same principle applies here.

YOU bring the vision. AI helps you bring it to life.

Trust me, your unique, seemingly silly ideas truly matter. Your 'I probably shouldn't share' opinions matter. Your imperfectly messy human-y experiences matter. That lesson you learned after a launch didn't go according to plan? That conversation with a client that changed how you approach your work? That strong opinion you have about your industry? Those are the things that can make your content memorable and your business distinctive!

If you're constantly asking AI to generate your ideas, write your content, make your decisions, and tell you what to do next, when are you giving yourself the opportunity to develop your own entrepreneurial instincts?

You don't become a better business owner by avoiding every opportunity to think. You become better by making decisions, testing ideas, learning from what happens, and adjusting your approach.

So, how do we actually use AI to grow our businesses?

1.First, THINK before you prompt. Before you open ChatGPT to ask what you should post, take five minutes to figure out what YOU want to say. What do you believe about the topic? What have you learned from your own experience? What does your audience need to hear from you? What perspective can you bring to the conversation?

Get those thoughts out of your head. Write a messy paragraph. Record a voice note. Brain-dump your ideas onto a page. They don't need to be polished or perfectly organised. They just need to be yours. THEN bring them to ChatGPT and ask it to help you structure your thoughts, sharpen your argument, or turn your ideas into something actionable.

See the difference? You're not asking AI to manufacture your perspective. You're asking it to help you communicate that perspective more effectively.

2.Second, use AI to help you think through business decisions, not make every decision for you. Let's say you're considering a new offer. Instead of asking ChatGPT to invent an offer and blindly accepting whatever it gives you, start by looking at what your customers need, what you're good at, what you've learned from your existing clients, and what makes sense for your business goals. Then use AI to explore different options, challenge your assumptions, and identify questions you may not have considered.

You're still the one making the final call. Because a business strategy can look absolutely BEAUTIFUL in a document and still be completely wrong for your business. You need to apply your judgment, understand your numbers, and decide what you're actually willing and able to execute.

3.Third, let AI take some of the repetitive work off your plate. Now THIS is where we can have some fun. Need to turn your launch plan into a checklist? Organise your content ideas into categories? Create a first draft of a client onboarding document? Turn your big project into smaller, manageable tasks? Let AI help you get it done.

You don't need to spend three hours organising a project if you can create a useful first draft in minutes. You don't need to manually reinvent the wheel every time you repeat a process. Use the tools available to you, review the output, and make sure it works for your business. The point is to save time and energy so you can spend more of both on the work that actually needs YOU.

4.And finally, please, PLEASE don't let AI erase your personality from your content. Your audience doesn't need another generic post filled with recycled business advice and sentences that sound like they were assembled in a corporate content factory. They want your perspective. Your stories, your experience, your way of explaining things.

Give ChatGPT the actual substance of what you want to say. Ask it to help you make your message clearer, improve the structure, or identify where your argument could be stronger. Then read the result and make it yours. If it doesn't sound like something you'd actually say to a client over coffee, edit it. If it doesn't reflect what you believe, change it. If it's polished but says absolutely nothing interesting, start again.

You are not obligated to publish something just because AI generated it in thirty seconds.

The goal is to become a smarter business owner, not a professional prompter. Ooh, read that again!

See, AI is becoming more accessible, and that's exciting. You can use it to simplify your workflows, brainstorm ideas, organise your projects, and execute certain tasks faster than you could before. You don't need to make business harder than it has to be just to prove that you can do everything yourself.

But being efficient doesn't mean surrendering your judgment. Being resourceful doesn't mean outsourcing your originality. And working smarter doesn't mean avoiding the thinking required to build a business that actually works.

Two entrepreneurs can use the same AI tool and get completely different results. One uses it to generate endless ideas, constantly second-guesses herself, and spends more time planning than implementing. The other knows what she's building, uses AI to support her strategy, takes action, pays attention to the results, and adjusts when necessary.

Same tool but different approach.

So, by all means, learn how to use AI. Experiment. Automate the repetitive tasks. Find ways to make your business more efficient. Get some of your time back. But don't become so obsessed with optimising how you work that you forget to do the work that grows your business.

You still need to understand your audience. You still need to create offers people want to buy. You still need to communicate your value, build relationships, make decisions, and follow through on your plans.

ChatGPT can help you do those things. But it cannot take responsibility for doing them on your behalf.

YOU are the CEO, bestie! You get to decide the vision, make the calls, and lead the business. Let AI be the assistant who helps you execute. Just don't hand over your crown.

So, the next time you're about to run to ChatGPT asking it to figure out your business for you, HOLD UP! Give that beautiful brain of yours a minute or 10 to clock in. Get your ideas out, decide what YOU think, and THEN let your AI assistant help you get things DONE faster.
Remember, you're the CEO, love. PLEASE ACT LIKE IT!

Your brain is still one of your best most beautiful business assets. Let's start treating it that way!!!
