How I'm Building a Bridge Between Finance and Technology—One Bold Decision at a Time

Introduction
There was nothing extraordinary about the laptop I borrowed during my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year. It was not new, it was not mine, and every study session came with the understanding that I would soon have to return it. Yet that borrowed laptop became the symbol of something much bigger—a journey of resilience, reinvention, and intentional growth.

Today, I am a Microsoft Certified Azure professional, a Microsoft Certified Power BI Data Analyst, a technical writer, and the Head of Community Growth and Innovation at CodeSphere Hub. I moderate technical masterclasses, lead technology outreach initiatives, build strategic partnerships, and advocate for more women and young people to pursue careers in technology.

But none of those achievements came before one defining decision: I refused to let the future happen to me. I chose to prepare for it.
Seeing the Future Before It Arrived
I studied Business Administration, and my passion for finance led me to pursue the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). As I watched automation, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data reshape businesses, I realised the future of finance would belong to professionals who understood both finance and technology. Instead of resisting change, I embraced it.

I often remind myself: “I wanted to learn skills that would make my talent undeniable.” That conviction has guided every major decision I've made.
Choosing Growth Over Comfort
An internship gave me valuable experience, stability, and a salary. Many people encouraged me to keep the job, but I realised it left little room for the intensive learning I needed. The salary itself became a distraction from building the skills that could transform my future.

Walking away from paid work wasn't easy, but I left feeling relieved rather than afraid because I believed investing in myself would produce greater opportunities.
Borrowed Dreams
During NYSC, I didn't own a laptop. Instead of postponing my ambitions, I borrowed a friend's computer whenever I could, spending late nights completing Microsoft Learn modules, Azure labs, and technical exercises.

Months later, I saved enough to buy my first laptop. It wasn't just a computer—it represented independence and reminded me that dreams do not always begin with resources; sometimes they begin with resourcefulness.
Learning With Intention
I committed myself to continuous learning and earned Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Microsoft Applied Skills: Get Started with Azure Management Tasks, and Microsoft Applied Skills: Secure Storage for Azure Files and Azure Blob Storage. Every certification represented practical competence and another step toward my vision of bridging finance and technology.
Leadership Through Service
My consistency created opportunities. I first became Community Lead at CodeSphere Hub before being promoted to Head of Community Growth and Innovation. Today I moderate masterclasses, lead technology outreach programmes, and champion partnership initiatives, including collaborations with communities such as Medinat-Bayan. I also had the privilege of speaking during CodeSphere Hub's International Women's Day programme at CMS Girls Grammar School. Leadership, to me, is measured not by titles but by the opportunities I create for others.
Sharing Knowledge
Beyond community leadership, I document my learning journey through technical articles on Dev.to. By sharing Azure tutorials, cloud projects, and lessons from hands-on experience, I hope to make the path a little easier for others. I believe knowledge becomes more valuable when it is shared.
Recognition and Vision
My work eventually earned wider recognition, including a feature on LN247 Television. Recognition has never been my destination—growth has.

Looking ahead, I hope to build a lasting bridge between finance and technology by helping organisations combine financial expertise with cloud computing, automation, and data analytics to make smarter, more secure decisions.
Conclusion
Success, for me, means freedom: the freedom to keep learning, to keep growing, and to create opportunities for others.

I hope my legacy will not simply be that I worked in finance or technology, but that I demonstrated what is possible when the two disciplines come together with purpose. My journey has taught me that careers are shaped by curiosity, courage, and the willingness to evolve.

Making my talent undeniable has never been about competing with others. It has always been about becoming the person I know I am capable of being—and inspiring others to do the same.
