Breaking Barriers in Cybersecurity: My Journey from a Small-Town Dreamer to a Senior Information security engineer
From a B.Tech graduate to a Senior Information security engineer in cybersecurity, my journey has been driven by continuous learning, resilience, and a belief that women belong in technology. Through challenges, growth, and ongoing education, I've learned that confidence is built through action, and I hope to inspire more women to pursue careers in tech.

The Beginning :
When I graduated with a B.Tech in Computer Science in 2022, I had a dream that many young women in India share—to build a meaningful career in technology, become financially independent, and create opportunities that my younger self could only imagine.
Like many students, I faced uncertainty about my future. Technology was exciting, but it was also intimidating. Cybersecurity, in particular, seemed like a field dominated by experts with years of experience. As a young woman entering the industry, I often questioned whether I belonged in such a challenging domain.
Despite the doubts, I decided to take the first step.
Entering the World of Cybersecurity :
My professional journey began when I joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as a Security Analyst. Suddenly, cybersecurity was no longer something I read about in textbooks—it became a real-world responsibility.
I learned about threat detection, vulnerability management, security monitoring, risk assessment, and how organizations protect themselves from constantly evolving cyber threats.
The learning curve was steep.
There were days when I felt overwhelmed by technical concepts, security frameworks, and the fast-paced nature of the industry. But every challenge became an opportunity to grow.
I realized that success in cybersecurity isn't about knowing everything. It's about being willing to learn every day.
Learning Beyond the Job :
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that careers are built outside comfort zones.
While working full-time, I continued investing in my education and professional growth. I pursued an MBA in Cybersecurity to deepen my understanding of both technology and business.
At the same time, I prepared for certifications, explored new security domains, participated in cybersecurity communities, and continuously upgraded my skills.
Balancing work, education, and personal growth was not easy. There were late nights, early mornings, and moments of self-doubt.
But every small step moved me forward.
Challenges Women Still Face in Tech :
Although technology has made incredible progress, women remain underrepresented in many technical and cybersecurity roles.
Many young women hesitate to enter technology because they believe they need to be perfect before applying for opportunities.
I want to challenge that belief.
The truth is that nobody starts as an expert.
Every cybersecurity professional, software engineer, data scientist, and technology leader was once a beginner.
Your willingness to learn matters far more than having all the answers.
Building Confidence Through Action
Confidence did not come first in my journey.
Action came first.
Every project I completed, every challenge I solved, every interview I attended, and every new skill I learned slowly built my confidence.
I've learned that growth happens when we say "yes" to opportunities even when we're unsure of ourselves.
The technology industry rewards curiosity, persistence, and continuous learning. These qualities are available to everyone, regardless of background, gender, or experience level.
My Message to Women Aspiring to Join Tech
If you're a student wondering whether you belong in technology, you do.
If you're switching careers and feel behind, you're not.
If you're afraid of cybersecurity because it sounds difficult, remember that every expert started exactly where you are today.
Technology needs diverse voices, perspectives, and ideas. Women bring unique strengths to problem-solving, leadership, communication, and innovation.
Don't wait until you feel completely ready.
Apply for that internship.
Start that course.
Join that community.
Build that project.
Ask that question.
The first step often matters more than the perfect plan.
Looking Ahead :
My journey is still unfolding.
I continue to learn, grow, and challenge myself every day. My goal is not only to build a successful cybersecurity career but also to encourage more women to explore opportunities in technology and believe in their own potential.
If my story helps even one woman take her first step into tech, then sharing it is worth it.
The future of technology should be built by everyone—and that includes you.
